Poor 3D playback performance GT 430

Hi folks,

I recently purchased a 3D TV and also bought an Nvidia GT 430 graphics card for my HTPC due to it's 3D playback capabilities. Unfortunatley, the GT 430 appears to perform poorly with 3D blu ray content especially. Sometimes I would get severe frame drops. When I check processes I can see the processor spikes up every now and again and normally sits around 45-50%. This is too high in my opinion. Normal 2D playback seems to works ok but still see the odd frame drop.

The Nvidia control panel 3D options confuse me a little. Is there anything I can do to improve 3D playback? For the record, I briefly owned an AMD 6850 and the 3D playback was absolutely flawless. I'm certain this is something to do with the GPU not doing it's job properly. I've seen reviews of systems running cheap AMD and Intel processors that can play Blu-ray 3D content flawlessly with the same card. What am I missing? Thanks all ;)

What media player are you using?

If you are using PowerDVD enable - Avivo/PureVideo - in its options menu?

Thanks. I am using powerdvd. I actually changed my graphics card over to Radeon 6670 and now CPU is at 100% and it is unplayable. I briefly had a Radeon 6850 and it played flawlessly on this so I'm sure the CPU is fast enough. Not really sure where the problem lies. Is there something in the AMD control panel that I need to enable? This is very frustrating. Thank you!

Hi there,

If you are using PowerDVD then you need to ensure that the GPU acceleration is fully implemented - since playing a 3D Blu-ray should not put much strain on the CPU as the GPU should offload the majority of the work (which the GT 430/HD 6670 can do without trouble).

May I ask what version of PowerDVD you are using?

Also are you running the most recent version of the the graphics card drivers?
