Poor airflow

When I game (GTX 1070), the temperature on all my HDDs and SSDs shoot up to anything between 50-56c. I put this down to my GTX 1070 generating so much heat. When idling they range about 35-43c or so. My Samsung 840 currently which is just my Windows boot drive is 56c.

I have one rear case fan i bought many years ago. I think it's called red wing or something. Should I replace this?

What's the best way (and most silent as possible) to improve the airflow or to keep the drive temps down a little?

Thanks

The potential deployment of fans depends on your case and your motherboard. I'm sure you would be able to put in a front fan though at least.
If your existing fan spins at sufficient speed (CPUID HWMonitor can show you that information) and you are happy with any sound it makes, there is no need to change it. If it's dusty then do dust it.
I've got 4 fans (including my two CPU cooler fans) in my case and under non-gaming use my PC, which has lots of vent holes, is practically silent.

One PC fan for a gaming PC I would say is too little. Two is likely to be a good improvement and a third top fan, if your setup allows one to be fitted, has a good chance of improving the situation further. More than 3 is likely to have no worthwhile benefit.

What case do you have? What fans do you have and how are they set up? Your pc sounds like a hotbox so poor airflow is most likely the problem. We need more information.

I just downloaded HWMonitor, says FANIN0 is 0 RPM and FANPWMIN0 0% ! Will check tomorrow if it's actually disconnected :D

Spec as follows:
Coolermaster Elite 334
Asus p8z77-v lx
i5 3570k (stock)
Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler
2 Samsung HDDs
3 SSDs - Crucial and Samsung.
GTX 1070

The case fan (Xilence Red Wing) is mounted on the rear of the case. I have 2 HDDs next to each other (so there's only a very small gap between them due to lack of space, because of my graphics card) and the Samsung 840 SSD is one slot above it. The other 2 SSDs are in the 5.25 bays. The HDDs are only about 1cm away from the graphics card.

I've also today cleaned the case out with air compressor.

I'm happy to spend some money on some cooling or even a new case if it improves the temps which is something I thought about doing recently when installing my graphics card!

Any recommendations for a silent front case fan?

A new case with roof mounted fans would be good. One with the psu in the bottom so it's not getting rid of the hot air that everything else is producing as well. No need to spend a fortune either. The Bitfenix Shinobi 3.0 is only £45 at the moment and would be a big step up in cooling. In terms of value for money though I don't think that the Phanteks range can be beaten. The Entoo Pro M is a excellent case at £70.

I ended up buying the Fractal R5. So much more space now :D

I'm using the 2 fans that come with it, one blowing directly on the 3.5 bays (the top bays anyway). HDD/SSD temperatures are about 35c when gaming :)

Thank you all for the help
