Poor COH performance, cpu limited?

I've upgraded the second house pc and while everything runs fine, COH is running really slow. I've lowered the res to 1024 x 768 from 1280 x 1024 and ingame options too, but it still runs like a dog at about 20 fps irrespective of graphics settings! The system is as follows:

A64 3500 @ 2.4ghz, 2gig ocz memory at 3-3-3-7, x1800xt 256meg at stock, win XP.

BF2 runs at about 50fps average at 1280 x 960, max details, 4AA, 8AF. FEAR runs pretty well too though I haven't tested it out yet with the timedemo.
The only problem game is COH, which runs like a dog like I said. I'm beginning to wonder if its the cpu holding back.
Any info would be appreciated.

I could never ever get it running decent with smooth frame rates when i had it last year, i think its just the engine to be honest.

Wouldn't have thought so. I'm running a Venice at a shade under 2.5ghz and performance was OK with tweaked settings. Make sure you turn down post processing, shadows etc.

What do you get for the benchmark?

COH is a different kettle of fish when compared to FEAR or BF2.

It is a tough one to crack settings wise - i've yet to find a middle ground with my setup, and even having my 4000 @ 3.1 it does still struggle at times - but the x1900xt 256 does a good job mosta the time and yea 2 gig of ram is a must :)

Oh and bear in mind i'm saying it runs ok at 1600 x 1200 - so i recon my rig could do better at much lower res !

I run COH fine with the below with most of the settings maxed out, only crashed/slowed down on the last level of the campaign.

I'm gonna try tweaking the settings a bit, post proccesing, shadows etc and see if that makes a difference, I don't expect it to run at full chat, but around 30-40 fps would be nice.
Dawn of war runs really well which is similar format game (rts) so I'd expect coh to play reasonably well.

To "the other option", whereabouts in Ealing are you?, I'm in Northfields meself.
