Hi all
Im playing BFBC 2 and COD black ops and my HD 4890 does not seem to be playing well. FPS drops to 10 when lots is going on and while running around.
I know the higher all the settings and resoltion the harder the card has to work.
I have turned everything to Meduim setting in COD blacls ops and all the AA down to the lowest or off and still game runs like pooh.
The resolation for my HD 4890 is 1920 x 1080. Should the card be able to run smoothly? or is a setting wrong? or has my system had it day! :(
Any info on if anyone else has the same kind of system do u experience any problems.
If the card has had it days whats the next best ATI bang for buck.
Would my current CPU be able to handle it, without being overclocked.

Thanks for ur time :)

Abit IP-35 pro
Intel quard core Q6600 2.40
ATI XFX HD 4890 with lastest drivers installed
4 gig memory
View Sonic VX2260

try backing the resolution down a notch or two, a 4890 isnt bad still.

overclocking that lovely Q6600 to 3ghz would be a huge help too.

5770 does fine at that res, and it's basically a 4890 on a smaller scale, (with slight oc), but i'm guessing it's cpu limited with those cores at 2.4. BC2 is a poor console port which uses far more cpu than it really should.

That doesn't sound right. You should easily be able to run that game. Uninstall your drivers, restart, try going back to some slightly older drivers if the latest ones keep having this problem.

When using older drivers still had the same problems. I have the same system has my friends and the only thing that differs is the monitor resoulation. Their monitors dont go that high. Perhaps shall try a low res.
Thank for your time :)

But you really need to overclock that CPU, it's not going to help you at all running at 2.4ghz. Trust us, you'll see a significant performance gain if you clock it to 3ghz.

Do i use change the multiplyer or does the voltage need to be changed also. I have one of those stupied big heat sinks on the top so all should be good.

4890 is actually a decent step faster than the 5770, so yeah. CPU overclock time :D

1 sec iv just found abit UGuru should i just use that to change the speed or would doing it in the BOIS be better.

As stulid says overclock your CPU and overclock your 4890 as well try overclocking it to 925MHz[850-stock] /1060MHz memory[975-stock] using the ATI drivers built in Overclocking Tool in CCC panel very easy to use, you can test it in the CCC panel as well. My sons 4890 is overclocked at that speed with no problems at all, he plays BC2, BO, Batman Arkham Asylum, graphics look really nice, below is a guide to help you. :)

Even if I put everything down to the minimum on Black Ops (res 800x600, no AA, textures Low etc.), because of my dual core I still get shocking, unplayable frames.

Hi gingergamer, sorry to hear of your gaming problem why don,t you upgrade your CPU, find out what CPU'S your motherbroad will support check your manual. As the AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition is about £100. Or you could keep looking in members market for one second hand and then sell yours recouping a bit money, just a thought m8. :)

+1 for CPU overclock but Blops is a funny game, it seems to thrive when you ramp the settings right up (apparently takes the load away from the CPU and makes the GPU work harder). Try all settings in CCC to pick up by application, ramp up settings to full in-game but turn Shadows off, shadows cause massive problems in this console port :\
