Poor Google ranking, any ideas?

It's funny how google blacklists hidden text but is completely insensitive to the sites that completely spam the search results with their own code, you know, the "let's pretend we have it all" internet search black holes - all the ciaos, kelkoos, shopping dot coms, not to mention ebay - the idiots that come up as top of anything of everything, search for "complete idiots", you'll get ebay linking "Everything to do with Complete Idiots and related items." and "Complete Idiots for sale. Check out the deals now!" and Kelkoo waves from behind "A selection of quality web sites for complete idiots." Nothing to be proud of guys, nothing to be proud of.

Bad plan. Google can detect circular linking as well and penalises for it.

But surely if you link to someone you expect a link back? I know i would, and obviously that is circular.

Maybe i'm not understanding it correctly.

Yep, there's no problem with that.. Google in fact gives most value to links which are reciprocated. What it doesn't like is link farms and set-ups where lots of sites all link to each other.

You need to get your website linked to from other websites. The other websites should have a high pagerank value. If they do, this will affect your sites pagerank value. Of course, this is based on many other things too, like page titles and content that Google can read and index. In order to maximise the content that is readable it's best to put all your page styling into a separate CSS file.

Any chance of getting 'co.uk' as well? No one will be guessing your site is .biz.

You should try to get a Yellow Pages website entry. Seams a perfect place to get a link IMO.

Plus you should always offer multiple channels for your customers to contact/find you rather than just relying on a search engine.

Does your local council list any businesses on their website? Are their any local business directory sites? Have you submitted your site to directories such as Yahoo!? Remember, Google isn't everything and these other channels will help with your Google rank.

Linking out to other external sites does help, it is often hard to do on business sites though. You have quite a few outgoing links though.

Who links to you is what counts...who you link to won't really help

Replace:

<a href="#" title="Simply Flowers">
With
<a href="http://www.simplyflowers.biz/" title="Simply Flowers">

you could also change your page names... for example
about
to about-simply-flowers

You have too much text in your h2 tags. As someone else said, replace with p tags.

You could try to get a bit higher by for example at the bottom, replacing:
<p>Copyright 2006, Simply Flowers, Freelance Wedding Florists, Ledbury, Herefordshire</p>
with
<p>Copyright 2006, <b>Simply Flowers</b>, Freelance Wedding Florists, Ledbury, Herefordshire</p>

I'd also replace the "read more" link to say "read about about simply flowers". Anchor text helps a lot.

Add more text to http://www.simplyflowers.biz/contact/
For example, I would change

Contact Us
to
Contact Simply Flowers.

Ok so maybe most peopel searching for flowers won't search for just simply flowers, but they will search for flowers, and it doesn't look spammy.

Also depending on how spammy you want the site to look, try to put your main keywords in the title tag and remove any unneeded ones. It increases the keyword density in the title tag. Google (and msn quite a bit) take the title tag into quite a lot of consideration.
And make
Freelance florists, Ledbury, Herefordshire a h1 tag. These are all just personal reccomendations, feel free to argue etc, or just ignore.

PS you dont have a link to http://www.simplyflowers.biz/links on all your pagse...just some... Oh and at the bottom navigation, change "home" to "simply flowers".

Hi, at the moment I have been using a css hidden layer on the index page with content and links, will this get ranked or will I lose points when the spider crawls through the page?
