Poor graphics performance on reinstall

Hi there,

Had a hard drive fail on me :(

So got a new drive yesterday and have just reinstalled windows + some drivers. However, i now have a problem - The graphics performance is really poor. E.g. When using IE, loading a site (say windows update), then rescaling the window, it struggles to draw the window smoothly.
This never used to be a problem.


The machine -
Abit KV8 pro (socket 754)
Athlon 64 3500
1 gig RAM
6800

I have installed some of the via drivers, the 'VIA Hyperion Pro Driver Package', and some of the audio drivers from the same page (http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=1)
I have also installed the latest nvdia forceware drivers (169.21).

Are there any more drivers that i should have installed ?

I seem to remember having Abit µGuru drivers installed before...could that be the problem ?



Failing that, should i just uninstall these newer via drivers and just install the older drivers listed on Abit's site for my mobo ?

That should be all the drivers you need but that's the kind of performance you get when Windows is using the standard VGA driver. I can see you say you've installed the latest nVidia drivers, but check device manager to see if there are any unrecognised devices.
 
I think i might have originally installed the new nvidia drivers before i installed the via stuff, could that have caused the problem ?

Since then i've uninstalled - reinstalled the newest nvidia drivers to no effect :(


Wonder if i should try resinstalling all the via drivers again....



Any idea on the Abit µGuru program ?

Presume you have Direct X on there as well.

Got the AMD dual core optimizer driver as well?

Are there any unrecognised devices in device manager? Maybe you need the Via agp driver, its sometimes seperate

There is nothing in the device manager unrecognised, just some printer stuff that i haven't set up yet. (In fact the display adapter is listing a "NVIDIA Geforce 6800" so i guess its seeing it correctly ?)



In the "VIA Hyperion Pro Driver Package", it says it includes :

"Version 5.14A of the Hyperion Pro drivers includes the following components:

INF V3.00A
AGP V4.60A
V-RAID V5.60A and RAID Tools v5.40
VIA IDE Falcon Storage Device driver v2.20A"

Would i need any other AGP stuff apart from that ?
