Poor overclock on e2200 with gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l

Hi, my friend set up a new pc today with the above equip along with a tuniq tower but for some reason it won't allow him to push the fsb through 230 (approx 2.5ghz). he was hoping for near 3ghz and it does seem a bit low, anyone have any idea what it could be? (sorry for sparcity of information it's getting a bit late) as an indicator if you push the fsb any higher it powers down, powers on and powers down again a couple of times before powering back up with manual overclock disabled.

hoping it's a bios revision or a setting rather than just a dud chip. cheers in advance.

He may need to adjust memory ratio / speed and check voltages and timmings.

Not a great lot of help but hopefuly it might give him some ideas.

I'm not round his now but i'm pretty sure i saw his memory ratio set at 2:1 might it be worth setting it at 1:1?

and any help at all is appreciated

Drop down tho the x2.5 Memory Multiplier and try that.

it was the memory timings, he changed it to 4:5 and is on 3.2ghz orthos stable after an hour.

If you're running an old BIOS then you need to hit Ctrl and F1 together on the main BIOS screen. They should now be in the MIT menu when you enter it.
