Hi all,

I have just started over clocking my new Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R board but so far the results have been very poor. I have a C2D-E6400 and I can't even get it to 2.5Ghz! I had an Asus P5N-E SLI and got it easily to 3Ghz but it died after a bad BIOS upgrade and I replaced it with this. I am not familiar with tweaking Gigabyte boards and I am certain that there are memory settings etc that I am missing. Your help would be very much appreciated. Incidentally, I am using a Thermalright Ultra-120 CPU fan and CPU temp is currently sitting at 22C idle so should have plenty of room for extra heat

hmm i have that exact same motherboard with a e6320 and so far overclocking has been a dream.Seems stable at 3.1ghz at stock volts (running orthos now, 3 and half hours in) I would go higher by my ram cops out on me, however i believe the cpu and rated fsb still have a lot of legroom. Will push it further once i have some money to get faster ram later on in the year.

Have you upgraded your bios to f2? this may help.Apart from that i don't see why it should be giving you any problems. Have you taken your ram out of the equation?

Thanks Jono 8 ;)

So you haven't even changed your voltages at all? That is sweet! I had a quick play with 'Easytune' this monrning but when I hit 2.5Ghz the PC freezes. This is with the voltage increased to 1.36v. I haven't even touched the memory timings yet. Something certainly isn't right with this. I am using exactly the same hardware as I had with the Asus P5N-E SLI board and I was easily able to hit 3Ghz.

Yes, I have updated the BIOS to F2, thanks ;)

Thanks UKD Tweak ;)

Right, this is really bugging me now. I can't even get the FSB to 310Mhz! The system will not boot at all. To point this out again, I could easily get to 3Ghz with my Asus P5N-E SLI board with the exact same CPU. I am pretty sure this is a setup problem somewhere. I am not that familiar with Gigabyte boards so if someone could post their settings that would be very helpful indeed. Should I change the multiplier (if it allows me) or leave it?

Thanks guys ;)

Hi,
Just a few pointers with this board to watch for, at least on mine, (F1 and F2 bios).
The temps for the CPU's read very low using Eastune or looking in health in the bios as compared with Everest and Intel TAT, by over 10c, so be careful using easytune, your temps could be higher than shown.
Left on auto, the cpu voltages are for me too high, also there was again a difference between what the motherboard said compared to Everest, so when I went to manual to set the motherboard at nominal using manual, I had in fact to put it up to 1.4 in the bios, for Everest (and Riva) to show 1.35.
If you therefore set 1.35 in the bios using manual, I suspect, if yours is like mine, your actual voltage will be much lower. All in all not a good state of affairs.
I would suggest before trying to overclock, you satisfy yourself what the settings really are by using a monitor you can trust, or checking with a meter if you have one. I intend to contact Gigabyte on this situation before overclocking, mine is back on nominal.
Has anyone else found these anomolies with this motherboard?

Yeh this is true. Easytune is giving me temps that are about 5-10 degrres lower than tat. tat shows 28-29 idle, easytune shows 22!lol below room temp, i don't think so

I havent even touched the voltages, cpuz shows it as 1.248 and its 10 hours orthos stable at 3.1 ghz.

vipergm, are you using a 2.00 or 2.40 multiplier for your ram so as not to let the ram limit the cpu overclock because i have found my ram can't do over 900mhz so i cant get higher, but with the 2.00 multiplier and timings of 5-5-5-18 it will do 442x2 (884mhz stable).

Jono - thanks

I haven't done anything with the RAM settings. I am pretty sure this is an issue. Isn't there a hidden menu I need to go to so that I can change memory timings etc? Yes I don't think my RAM will do any more than 900Mhz. Where can I change the memory multiplier from 2.0 to 2.4? Pardon my ignorance, but I didn't have to do any of this on the Assus board. Thanks for your help guys. Really appreciate it ;)

On the main screen of the bios hold ctrl f1, then when you go back into motherboard intelligent tweaker, you should have loads of ram settings there including the multiplier. If you havent been using the multiplier so far that is probably most likely your problem. Technically you should be able to go higher than me seen as the e6400 has an 8x multi i believe? I just wish i bought faster ram now as there is no physical way of upping cpu frequency without putting my ram over 900mhz
