Riteo,

I think a lot of this is that I'm a total tard and need someone (Volunteer please!!) to talk me through correctly setting up and configing my pc.

I currently have the following kit
Gigabyte P45 DS3R
Wolfdale E8200 - (Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler)
2 GB of 1066 OCZ
ATi 2600 Pro
Xfi sound card
160 gig Samsung boot
4x500 gig Samsung for storage

This is all being used as a media centre, and at times it seems to struggle (its outputting to 2 extenders, and the machine has a bit of a mental fit randomly with the hard drive light being hard on)

Its all running at whatever the bios defaults it to, and as such stuff isnt running so well (3D Mark 2006 as an example running the demo really struggles)

I did once have a crack at overclocking the CPU, and I think it went up to 3.6 ghz quite happily, but it was ages ago and I cant remember what the chap who helped me told me to do !

Appreciate all and any help to get this baby tweaked up !

Do you have a good disk defragmentation program? Disk access it usually the cause of poor performance.

My media centre recored Live TV played back by MPV extenders and the main PC .... in excess of 200,000 fragements a month sorted. They rack up fairly quick when you record from two or more streams simultaniously. I set mine to run at 3am every night when nothing else was going on.

I'm only using X2 3800 s939 1GB and I can record 3 channels, and play back to two MVP's and the main TV without issue. Though is all standard def rather than HD.

I recommend Diskeeper
