hi,

I have a strange, rather annoying problem since buying a 9800gtx+ last week.

COD4 on my old 7900 ran fine, no issues whatsoever. FPS was never an issue (at a guess i think it was around the 50-60 mark)

Since installing the new card though in multilplayer (single is ok - still about 60 tho) its getting below 10FPS averaging about 25!! wtf! even on the startup screen, it doesnt get higher than 40.

its weird. other games I'm playing on high settings include FC2 (ultra high), Crysis and Mass Effect. they all run smooth as ****. :s

system:
XP home SP3
E6400 2.13gh
9800gtx dark knight
4gb ram
asus p5b mobo

I've tried:
changing settings to Low
changing res to low
re-installed the game
played with less RAM (saw this on another forum )
updated drivers (card and mobo)
re-installed latest patches

Its really bizzare and im hoping I'm being a tool and missing something obvious?

ANY help would be greatly apreciated.

how long have you had the system???

I just built a new rig a few months back(what is on my sig)
But before then the system i was using was fine one moment playing (cod4) then all of a sudden i started laggin like hell a lot,And the game in multi was just annoying to play.In the end i took the whole comp apart and gave it a good clean out(which it really needed) then i re-installed windows and put cod4 back on before giving the comp to my son,Now it's seems to be working fine again.

(i'm not suggesting that you take it all apart,But check to see if it needs cleaning)

Hope this helps

Have you thought about hitting the windows key, coming out of CoD4, and having a look at your network in resource monitor. Seems strange it's only CoD4 multi, maybe a conflict somewhere...?

I've now tried a fresh windows install on a completely different drive.

installed all the latest drivers for the graphics card, mobo, sound - everything i can think of.

installed the game fresh.

loading up the game the intro screens are choppy (stop, starts), the menu screen is just as bad. getting around 20 fps and under. :(

ran single player and it runs fine!

any thoughts? i cant get my head round this..

Software firewall/AV conflict or restricitons?

something outside your pc?
-router/ hardware firewall
-port forwarding on your router?
-isp traffic shaping reducing your ping? (dont know why this'd drop your fps)

just throwing ideas into the pot

I remember BF2 lagging a bit online until I turned my sound settings down on an older rig, could be that?
