Poor performance with Watch Dogs

Anyone else having this problem?

Whenever I drive in Watch Dogs, the frame rate tanks, quite often until it becomes unplayable. My specs are as follows:

AMD FX-6300 @ 4.2GHz overclocked
8GB RAM
Radeon R9 290
Kingston 30GB SSD (on which the game is installed)

While these aren't the best specs in the world, they should at least be adequate to play the game on High without the frame rate dipping. I've seen a lot of people complaining about this online, but no real solution. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers.

Since released I played it once and have been waiting ever since for someone to come across and say, Watch_Dogs is actually playable!

Still waiting for that day...

Nothing new here!!

I would however suggest searching the PC Games & GPU forums for the same topic, there maybe some hints/tips as to minor improvements. There are going to be a fair few threads on this!

Only way I got it 'playable' was to limit the frame rate to 40fps. Not great but a million times better than the huge frame drops trying to play at 60fps.

I've never managed to properly play the game as it was a stuttering POS, even after numerous patches. I'll never touch another Ubisoft game again. They honestly cannot code for ****.

No problems here however not tried it on my new rig. I was running it problem free on an i5 760 at stock 2.8Ghz with a 280x at 1920x1080

I was in the same boat, when your at the title screen menu, tone the texture levels down in the display menu, and it will become playable, if you try to change in the pause menu when in the actual game the option will be greyed out.

When I first launched the game, me thinking i've got an i7 and a 770 I can max this....The game is completely unoptimized and broken its not even funny, frames were literally just jumping all over the place, once I dropped the texture setting down everything calmed down to give me playable steady frames.

But I think the majority bought Watch_Dogs for it's beauty and realism we were being shown during E3 and screenshots. Then on release, what we got was a mess with no QA meaning we lost all of that as we have to sacrafice detail and graphics so it's just about playable.

It's dissapointing but just another 'bad' promise thrown on the heap of could-bes.

Are you on Catalyst 14.9?

Watch Dogs
AMD Radeon R9 290 Series / R9 270 Series – improves up to 9%
AMD CrossFire – Frame pacing improvement
Improved CrossFire performance – up to 20%

watchdogs is cpu hungry might be that your cpu letting you down i can play constant 60 fps with 770 , with optimized settings high / ultra

Don't set textures to ultra and it should be fine. It's not brilliantly optimised but it's a lot better now than it was at release and bar the ultra textures I found it perfectly playable on a 4ghz i5 / 7950. Playable enough to 100% the game anyway. One thing I did notice was that frame rates would occasionally tank when playing online with one of my cup cores sitting at 100%. I think it was when I was hosting the session, not sure.

I use a 770 and a 3770k clocked at 4.5, its just poorly optimized, Drop the Texture level in the display menu and it becomes instantly playable.

Ubisoft Kiev's ports suck, Assassin's Creed Unity will be another disaster.
