poor quality via hdmi

hi i just built myself a media pc

4800x2
gigabyte 780g
2gb ram
antec psu
antec fusion case
250gb hdd
x-fi sound card
vista premium 32

but when i connect it up via hdmi to my tv (1080i) the quality is somthing ive sen beter on a gameboy ,all the colour is poor and all the writing is poor everything just looks bitty

any idead on how i can solve this as its turned into an expensive dvd player

yeah vga is perfect but will only do 1360 x something and all resolutions via hdmi look poor
