Poor results from my G.Skill 6400 HZ :( Need advice

Hi all,

Recently built a new C2D system including: E6300; DS3; X1900XT; G.Skill 6400 HZ. Started clocking the other night and bumped the FSB up to 450mhz, VDIMM +0.5v (2.3v), locked PCIe frequency, etc, and set the RAM Timings to 4 4 4 12 [others auto]. I loaded up 3D Mark 2k1 and it crashed to the desktop within 10 seconds. SP2004 with a RAM stress test fails within 1-2 seconds . So I slackened the timings to 5 5 5 15, and still no luck. I set the RAM timings to auto, and it boots up at 5 6 6 18 and is stable with these timings. Now, I'd really like to have 4 4 4 12 or atleast 5 5 5 15 AND still have room for more mhz, as I'm sure this CPU can do more than 3.15ghz! Any thoughts or adivce? BIOS is F4E btw. I've basically done everything in the BIOS that is recommended in the DS3 owners thread.

EDIT: S/N on RAM starts: 63209401xxxxxx - I've read that S/N starting 0605>are D9 chips..

... and thats with +0.5v (2.3v)... RMA time?

Oh, and I know its not the CPU. That ran SP2004 last night @ 3150ghz for 8 hours.

Just a stab in the dark but have you tried lower voltage on the ram?

Mine do 430 @ 1.8v 4-4-4-12

Maybe 2.3v is a little too much? Aren't they rated 2.0 - 2.2

I'll give it a go just in case..

I've got mine nice and happy on 440FSB at the moment with 2.0V. try lowering the voltage. also try increasing the (G)MCH and FSB volatges to +0.2V, and setting the PCI-E bus to 105MHz

Wow, just did that and now its running nicely @ 2.0v 450fsb Will do some investigating to find out what made the difference...

Bleh, I spoke too soon. Failed SP2004 after a minute or two. After some playing around I've basically found out that it likes lower voltages, but still isn't performing as a good as other DIMMs I've seen on here. Seems to be running ok @ 450mhz - 2.0v - 5 5 5 15.
