I've installed my 6300 today and have been having a play with it. I started off with my Ultra 120 but the temps were always idling around 53C. I took the heatsink off and it looks like the middle of it is concave...

So I swapped to my Ninja, turned my PC back on.. My temps are lower but the idle temps are still around 45C. If I run Orthos, they get up to 60C!

This is with the 6300 running on a FSB of 390 giving just over 2.7GHz with an Asus P5B Deluxe motherboard. My Ninja used to keep my X2 4400 at 38C idle and 55C under load. Have I just got a hot 6300? Or is my motherboard lieing to me.. Also what is the AUX temp in Speedfan, its constantly at 128C.

Get Intel TAT for the temps.

My 6300 runs at around 40-43 IDLE and about 56 Max on Load (Load being 3DMark06 CPU tests)

Also make sure you ain't got smart CPU fan control on in your BIOs, disabling this cut my idle temps down from 59-60 to 40-43 ish ( )

This is at about 1.298Vcore and 3 Ghz 430x7

Yeah Im sure BIOS is the most accurate as well. i have this exact same problem, my CPU temp is 51°C in coretemp, I have tried reseating the CPU fan as well and disabling smartfan, still the temps dont go down :/ I am using the stock cooler also. Didn't mean to highjack your post just letting you know I am in the same position. Oh yeah and Im currently on 2.34GHz (333x7) as My RAM is only 5300 :/

TAT and CT both read from on-die thermometers. All other programs read from the motherboards temp probe that is beside the CPU and not in it. So TAT and CT are the two realistic ones whereas other programs will be down by 5-10C.

Your CPUs may need to be lapped. There are a lot of good tutorials around on how to do this. You'll need a range of sandpaper down to a 2000 fineness.

Well I've checked with CT and Speedfan and they both seem to read the same.. Idles about 45C on both cores. Time to reseat the heatsink again, if that doesn't work, I'll have to read some lapping guides!

That seems a bit better, have reseated the heatsink a couple times. Its now 40C idle and goes up to 51C with a quick blast on Orthos at 2.9GHz. Going to leave it Orthosing while I go to the pub. :)

edit: Any idea why Coretemp keeps crashing after around 20secs of running?
