iv just installed a e6600 with a scyph ninja, using akasa 455 thermal compound and im getting idle temps of 51/48 (with tat)

and load temps im getting up to 78 on cpu0 71/72 on cpu1

iv installed an antec tricool fan and set the speed to max but still not lowing them. Maybe i have put too much thermal compound on? or maybe i should have used the stuff that came with the ninja?

Deffo re-seat the cooler and ensure it isn't catching on anything as you need an even mount. Akasa thermal compund aint the best but it shouldn't affect temps that much and yes too much can damage your temps. A thin line down the middle is recommended or use a rice sized blob in the middle - no more. My guess is a bad mount though, sure I read somewhere about someone having problems mounting a scythe ninja due to the mounting mechanism resting on something.

well i noticed one of the arms on the bracket is bent!! so it was never installed properly. i took it off and the compound was only on 1 side of the cpu. So now i installed the stock heatsink and im getting temps of 42/43

still a bit high??

56/57 idle

68/69 on load.

and this is with the stock cooler. Which has been put on well. WHY am i getting these temps. My room temperature isnt exactly hot or cold, just perfect

i have a E6600 with reference heatsink and fan i get idle of 48-50 and load of 63-64 apparently this is a little high but within intels operating guidelines

I just had a similar problem with my 6300. Was idling at around 50C with a Ninja on top!

I reseated the heatsink around four times in total and finally my idle temps are down to ~40 and load is about 50! :)

You might just need to reseat yours a few times... Worth a shot anyway.

when im installing, i often mess about with it because i can never get it to clip in first go, as im lifting up the heatsink slighty, maybe im trapping bits of air in the compound?? cant think what else it could be

My 6600 at stock settings gets 40c idle and 54c full orthos load with a ninja revb and as5 i was expecting lower temps reseated loads of time but no joy just gonna have to live with it. Would a screw in retention system be better than the push pin type might be worth a try?

I find the air flow in the case makes a big difference, I have a E6600 over clocked to 3.2 with a ninja and it used to idle at around 41-43c full load 49-50c however one of my hard drives failed I removed this to RMA it and the idle temps dropped to about 37c and full load about 44c as it released a bit more airflow from the front case fan.

I've now run it at 3.4ghz and the idle temps are around 41-43c again load 48-50c however I've bumped up the voltage a little, so chances are the hard drive ain't going back in.

So I would check the air flow through the case.

just turned my fan up to 50% at idle and now its 44 c, and i adjusted it to go 100% at 51 c and now its maxing out at 53 whilst running prime 95

What motherboard are you using?

If its a Scythe Ninja Rev B the mounting bracket actually hits capacitors on boards like the Asus P5W, Gigabyte DS3 and DS4, maybe others.

You need to file a part out of the retention bracket. Remove the bracket from the base of the heatsink and try and fit it, you'll see where its hitting. I'll bet thats why you're getting poor contact. (bet is for no monetary value lol)

Would people therefore recommend the Tuniq tower then instead of the ninja as im looking at getting one or the other in the next week.. Also would it not be possible to mount another fan on the ninja therfore creating a push pull effect..

i definately reccomend a tuniq, i have one of those badboys slapped on an E6600 inside an akasa mirage case with 2 120mm fans and im getting idle temps of 20C :)
