Hi, thanks for looking.

when i use VLC to play files/dvds/HD the video quality is as it should be. but it doesnt output in full 5.1DD or DTS so i have a problem.

i can get DD and DTS from Windows Media Player & Media Player Classic but the video quality is really poor. lots of taring & pixilation.

any ideas?

Thanks again

DVD's play fine through my system. Try uninstalling your codecs and install Vista Codec pack. If you have 64 bit, make sure you also get the x64 tools or MC wont play.

im using a 32bit version of windows 2k3. i dont understand why one program can play excellent video and others cant. im putting up with poor video for my 5.1 sound atm but i cant do that for much longer.

any other suggestions as to why it may not be working?

i'll try uninstalling codecs now. see what happens.

Thanks Again
StevenG

VLC is self contained and includes the codecs it uses, whereas media player requires codecs to run Video files etc. Try the Vista codec pack, it should be compatible and works very well for me.
