Poor WEI score with 5450?

I just bought a 5450 to replace an old x800gt(256mb) and was surprised to find that my graphics WEI score went from 5.9 to 2.1.

I've got the latest drivers installed so don't know why replacing a 6 year old card would give me such a rubbish score but I no nowt about graphics cards. The gaming graphics score went up 2points to 5.0 so I suppose that's okay just confused at the poor desktop performance score.

Two reasons for this:-

1) WEI is pants

2) The 5450 is a pretty weak card

As long as the card does what you need then it's not a problem :)

Its probably DDR2 RAM on the card? The X800 would have had GDDR3 at a guess.

Yeah this new one is DDR3 rather than GDDR3

Yeah I've read this when ive been searching on this.

Is this card actually a downgrade? Tbh I don't really play games on my pc but I tried to play a demo of Dawn of War 2 and it said my card didn't support shader model 3.0 and I spotted OcUK had the 5450 for £18 so I just grabbed it.

Could move it to my HTPC machine and swap back to my old x800GT

I don't wish to be harsh but what did you expect for £18?

Guru3D review here.

Conclusion: We stated it several times in this review, the Radeon HD 5450 is obviously not intended for gaming.

5450 is definitely a card suited to a HTPC rather than a gaming machine :D I don't know if it's a downgrade or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.

my brother has actually just changed from XT850 to this card you have, mainly for Pheonix flight sim, and it is a weaker card. he has to turn GFX down (the Xt850 was borked btw)

did you guys miss the bit where the op said the gaming score went up? Op wants to know why his overall score went downt which given the gaming score went up, is nothing to do with the cards gaming performance or lack thereof.

I expected something that would improve on a 6 year old card. I don't really play games on the pc but the rest of my rig is fairly new and getting the message saying the card doesn't support X feature generally means its time to upgrade.

Which isn't much use if it's not up to playing DX11 games.

I think this is the gist of it. It's given me the ability to play DX11 but it has no more umph than my old card.

Correct, I'm mainly concerned with why the score had dropped so low with a new card rather than the gaming side of things but I suppose I'm a little disappointed I've gained almost nothing by getting this new card.

I should have added, dont worry about WEI. if it's for a htpc then you have gained a lot from the new card - proper hdcp compatibility, hdmi output, hd audio output, hardware hd video decoding. if these things all work as they should and without any obvious problems then dont worry about it :)

edit: wait, it wasnt bought for the htcp. erm...probably a downgrade either way then lol.

I pointed out the card was pants for playing games.

Whether or not it's more or less pants than the old card is irrelevant.

It's still pants.

I think that's enough use the word pants for one day :)

Of course its relevant, the OP wanted to know why the rest of his score went down, irrespective of the 3d score.

It's all pointless anyway but at least I read the op first.

I read the initial post but my posts were directed at the OP's later comment that they bought the HD 5450 because they "tried to play a demo of Dawn of War 2 and it said my card didn't support shader model 3.0".

I pointed out that the card they bought was pants (you made me say it again) for playing games.

The thread had moved on and I gave relevant information to the OP about using the HD 5450 for gaming.

Hey guys its all good. My op was more directed at the low desktop graphics score but it did move onto gaming performance.

Anyway, I'm not that fussed by DoW2. Think I might move the card to the media center.
