Any ideas?

When I try to start Windows XP up I get the following problems:

1) It thinks I have a RAID - although I think I have disabled this in BIOS now
2) It says it didn't start up properly and gives me the F8 options (safe mode, last known working etc). Start normally doesn't work, it gets as far as the blue screen for the login options then goes black and restarts the PC
3) If I select 'Last Known Working Configuration' from list, Windows starts, but then I get a message about 'Windows has recovered from a serious error, do I want to see the log' - looked in there, gibberish to me.
4) It tells me that a restart is neccessary because of Device Manager has finished installed my hardware - could be related to 1?

Running the latest Windows updates, definately no virus/trojans etc. All security up to date.

TIA
