Hi all,

I was powering up my pc earlier on tonight when half way through booting up, there was a loud popping noise and the pc went dead. The pc won't power on at all.

There are no fans spinning up from the psu or from anything else. I have done the usual troubleshooting steps of swapping out the psu with another unit, swapping the power leads over and unplugging all internal components so that there is just the psu connected to the motherboard but the is no life :(

Are there any other steps that I might have missed that could help? I have no idea what could be blown and I wonder if there is any damage to anything else (CPU, ram etc).

Cheers

Is that paperclip trick safe? I haven't seen that before so will give it a try.

I did have a look at the capacitors on the motherboard and couldn't see any obvious thAt was split or had burn marks on.
