BCA Blackbushe isn't too far from me and had some spare time this afternoon.

I only caught the last few cars going through, but one was the new shape 320d in gunmetal grey, 75k miles on the clock, fully serviced. Went for £7500. A lot of car for the money isn't it?

If theres nothing wrong with it, sure. Depends why it was there. It's going to be an 05 for that sort of money, so too old to be ex-fleet and most traders would have somebody under-write a tradein like that rather than banging it through auction..

I've seen an 07 plate go for 9500 at local auctions. Made me sick i paid 12k for my 06 (well 4k after trade in on a 57 Ibiza FR) :D If its the new new shape then its an 07 or onwards isn't it? Smoking deal if everythings good..

Good to know, will be shopping for a petrol in a year or two if my plan for job change comes through and i don't travel stupid miles anymore. The 320D is a nice and fairly quiet drive but a 330i is more my taste of car.

The large dealership networks tend to dispose of their trade-ins this way I think. I can't remember which sale it was now. What do you mean by having someone underwrite trade-ins? Haven't heard of that.

Yes, most of the cars of this sort of age will be unwanted tradeins. But why would an 05 current shape 320d be an unwanted tradein? If it was a completely 100% car it would be decent Approved Used stock - especially with it having under 100k miles on it.

Banging cars through auction is a last resort for dealers because they wont make as much on the car as they will retail.

As for underwriting, if you've got something a tad better than the average 6 year old Focus tradein they'll call other dealers and offer it to them before offering you a price. Many big dealers have a bunch of independants who take half decent tradeins off them for more than auction money - the indy gets a decent 'known' car he can inspect properly first, the bigger dealer gets more than he would at the auction.

The safest cars are the ex-lease ones as lease companies simply bang them all through auction at the end of the lease if the leasor didn't buy it, so there are no neferious reasons why they might be there.

Unless of course it is there due to a repossession or deemed as an uneconomical repair. Rare granted but possible.

If its uneconomical for a dealer to repair you dont want it. Repo perhaps, I've got an irrational fear of those - I dont want to own a reasonably complex car where the previous owner was so skint they had it repo'd... wonder what else it missed.

I wouldn't call that irrational!

Depends on the dealership I think. A few years ago I bought a two-year old Jag X type (horrible car) from a Porsche sale at Blackbushe. Wouldn't have looked good on their forecourt!

Had the use of one while staying with a mate in Yorkshire, V reg piece of ... absolutely hated it and felt ashamed to be driving around in it, definetly not how you supposed to feel driving a jag.

Didn't realise that the X-types were that old? Thought they came out at around the Y plate time?

I looked it up, probably is a Y tbh since it started production in 2001. For some reason i remember it as a V
