There are certain things I see in other houses, on property TV shows that don't really appeal to me yet seem to be quite popular/common. Here are a few of them:
-Laminate flooring (it can be impressive when done well, but I often find it cold and noisy to walk on), in fact I tend to dislike uncarpeted flooring in general outside of specific rooms like kitchen etc
-No toilets outside the main bathroom (I grew up in a house with two 'independent' toilets, so the idea of bathing in the same room as you take a dump, or having to wait while someone finished up in the bath when you are desperate was a bit of a shock to me)
-Victorian sash windows (can be quite noisy due to wind and often lack of double glazing). My childhood home had them and unlike the above I didn't just like what I got used to!
Now, I'm sure that my views are tainted by personal experience, and perhaps if I experienced 'perfect' implementations of the above, I'd change my tune. But they are some things that spring to mind that certainly wouldn't add any value to me personally even when done well.
How about you?
