Morning all,

I’m going to a friend’s house to fit new RAM today and sort out there popup’s problem. They use AOL as there internet provider, and use the AOL software to browse the internet etc. But while doing this IE -7 spam’s the screen with Holiday ads and other material, I’ve already sat at the computer and tried spybot, ad-aware and they pick up nothing ive also looked in add/remove for dodgy softare. The only other thing I can think of is to un install IE-7 and reinstall.. or format 

Anyone got any other clues?

Do a general scan of the computer using hijackthis as already mentioned, spybot and avast/avg. There's probably better programs out there but they're the ones I use and never had a problem with them.

Also, you could go into the IE-7 browser and go to tools, options, and click the advanced tab. Scroll down and disable third party extensions.

There's probably more that someone else might be abe to tell you but that's all I can think of

Try using a boot CD like BartPE with an up-to-date antivirus and antispyware package and scan outside of Windows.

If you would like a Guide i'm sure I (and others) can find one for you.

But because it is AOL I would just format and reinstall, do they use a router?

My father in law uses AOHell and used to get the same crap.

After a clean install (again) I installed Firefox. Put a link to his aol mail on the toolbar and he hasn't had a problem since.

Same nickname that I use, and something that I did with my old man.

Can this be done with AOHell's modems? As I know people that have a modem and would be far better off with just a sperate internet browser and email client. I have now got him using Firefox and Thunderbird.
