Porcelain Patio Costs

(I know this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question)

Has anyone had a porcelain patio laid recently? We are looking at a new patio around 45 square metres and like the look of the Marshalls Symphony porcelain at around £50-60 per square metre.

I am really wondering what the cost per square metre people have been paying for fitting the patio. There are no surprises for laying and no slope so it is a fairly standard area to lay the patio onto.

I have seen prices of around £150 psm fitted. Is this about right?
 
Chap has a post on here not too far down. He paid 5.5k and was complaining it wasn't level with his lawn. Will give you precise insight into the cost and things to be aware of.
 
I'm having three local firms coming to have a look and it will be interesting to see what they come up with.

We have had Marshalls Sandstone in the past but the uneven surface and edging drove e insane with the different width of the mortar. I like the straight edges and minimal mortar lines that the porcelain tiles give you, as well as the non-porous surface.

I might see what sandstone would cost as well to see if the price difference makes me re-think!

The only difference really is the price of the slabs. Sandstone can be sawn honed which is a flat surface like the porcelain, Picking up a decent hard Indian sandstone like Kandla grey honed would halve the price of the slabs.

I have had a look at those and they certainly get away form the rivened look of the standard sandstone.
 
Just had first quote in for around 50 square metres, contrast edging, and moving of shed and using current stone slabs rot create new path and area for shed to sit on: £7803

So the 150 per square metre seems about right.
 
Yes it's a fair bit of work, I think you'd be paying around £100/sqm for install costs, then the price per sqm on top for the slabs.

I thought my garden was fairly small, but turns out even I'd need about 40sqm of patio, which is going to sit at £4K or so before adding any slabs or anything else!
 
Second quote came in at £13300. Same area but almost twice as much.

Tried to get another quote from a local company but they wanted £120 plus VAT to quote. Obviously lockdown has come at a real price!

Any pictures? Are you happy with the end result?

Is that price for the whole fit include base etc?

I know all prices I've had back from any house work are high!
 
I paid just under £8k for 38m2 earlier this year. This included a fair bit of digging out and block work, and drainage. It took 4 guys 5 days to complete. So sounds about right (yours was cheaper per m2 than mine)

I've got a quote & booked in for the highest rated local firm (10/10 175 Checkatrade reviews) to fit 43m2 of porcelain (that I chose), dig out old patio covering half of the new patio area (the other half to come out is turf), install a better hardcore foundation, remove all rubbish, supply everything, for £6k cash (payment when happy with the job)

Of course you can get a cheaper job if you pay in cash. Aka tax avoidance.
 
Let me know how you get on with the maintenance of the tiles please?

I ask this as i have porcelain tiles on my front footpath and tbh i found they got dirty quite easy, i was having to clean them often with a mop.

It may be controversial but i found a sealer (even though most tile places i asked said you can't seal them)
Now they always have that wet look (which is better imo) and i clean them now maybe once every couple of months

I just use a plastic broom to brush the tiles when they are wet (after rain for example) and they always look good. They clean very easily with just water and don't stain at all.

(I used the jet washer once after the winter weather eased to give them a good clean and remove any algae, etc.)
