Having seen the options offered to Lashout regarding his vette replacement, I spotted the white 944 suggested by Flat6.

This is nice!

I am not a coupe man in any way. If its not 4WD, turbo'd and has won rally championships it doesn't interest. However, the above car I really really like! Would prefer a turbo but don't really know enough about them to make a decent decision.

I've seen one round these parts with what look like Porsche split rims, Recaro wing back seats and a bit of a cage. Looked very cool IMO.

Would be a 2nd car and looks like enough room for a short 6 year old in the back :)

Still significantly cheaper to buy than a Lancia Delta EVO and I would suspect cheaper to run too!

So, opinions much appreciated :)

ps - this one has my wifes initials KMS. Perfect reason! :D http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/158473.htm

You'd be surprised at the running costs, they are probably as expensive, if not more than the Integrale. Not really that fast either, unless you went for the 250bhp Turbo (not an earlier 220bhp model).

hi

i run a 1986 944 firstly you need to be able to do some of the repairs and maintenance yourself as Porsche dealers charge a fortune or if theres a independent specialist near you then use them, as for parts spares they are readily available and no more expensive than any other car, mine being a 2.5 liter engine can easily manage 30mpg and run unleaded BUT if you get a pre 1984 be warned it will probably need 4 star unless it has been modified

if you go for the 944s2 it MUST have a service history and check that the timing belts have been done in the last 4 years if not get them done as soon as possible as these belts have been know to fail with catastrophic results

best of luck if you go ahead with the 944s2 as they are great cars

Woah, now way!

Oh, the ironing! :)

Not fussed on overall speed. The Delta EVO I drove wasn't any faster than my Impreza. I just want a car to enjoy and be an event to drive. Its got to make the expense worthwhile and be a little different from the usual crowd.

Plus it would be my first foray into RWD :)

I had a 944S2 up until a couple of months ago, which I owned for a year a half. Make no mistake tho, they are expensive to run and keep in mint condition. They aren't so bad if they are a second car, as if something breaks you can wait and get it sorted whenever. Mine was my only car, was absolutely mint and was modified quite a bit. They are a fantastic car and I was totally gutted to let mine go, but it was just too expensive to run.
I now have an MK1 MX5, which I have to say in some respects is more fun to drive as you can get to the limits of the car at legal speeds, whereas the Porsche would just grip and grip.

If you want something quick and tuneable tho go for the 944 turbo as these can easily put out 300bhp.
