Has anyone here driven one of these? What are your opinions? It seems from reading reviews and watching videos that this is Porsche's best car (in terms of performance/desirability/value) in their current line up. Over 300bhp and less than £60k for an almost fully loaded S.

I saw one in Reading over the weekend and it looked so good. Plus it had the PSE on it and sounded as good as it looked.
Then somehow I ended up down at the Porsche centre in Reading (J12 of the M4) having a look at them.

I got given quite a good pack about the new Boxster (hard back brochure) and will hopefully organise a test drive soon.
PS - I have no intention of buying one brand new as the Boxster (as with other Porsches) historically have horrific depreciation.

Hi there

I suspect it will drive better than the Cayman R and Boxster Spyder which will be a huge achievement!

I can see it being probably Porsches best road car for sure, its only weakness maybe track work, but I am sure Porsche will maybe look at an R edition at somepoint in the future.

I had a Boxster 2.9DFI again recently and they handle superb, OK not quite as capable as the 911 in terms of all out corner speed, but they are better balanced and very very easy to drive on the limit and beyond. I can see the new Boxster (981) having the edge over my 911 in terms of all out corner speed though too along with even improved handling dynamics.

The new Boxster is sublime and in 2 years they will be awesome buys at around 25k mark for sure with an OPC warranty.

A 981 with ceramics, buckets with all the weight adding options removed will be one epic car and seriously quick. :)

I was hoping to go for a drive with some colleagues whilst I had the Boxster as would have been a lot of fun, but no one was up for, no doubt due to the embarrasment of having a Boxster hand them their asses on a plate. ;)

Boxster looks great now I think, finally grown up! :)

I've never liked how the old boxsters looked, regardless of how good they were to drive. I'll even admit to being a bit snobby (poor man's porsche etc), but I really like this new one and I'm even interested in buying one, not brand new though.

Everything I've read and heard about the new Boxster is positive. Friends I know who have them or who have driven them rave about them suggesting they are pretty much perfect. Porsche don't make bad sports cars, it will be fabulous and better (handling, feel, quality, depreciation) than pretty much anything for the same money....though they are VERY expensive these days with options and are competing with second hand 997 GT3 money, which you'd have to consider if you were simply wanting a Porsche, but not a lot of good if you want open air motoring.

On depreciation the Boxster used to be one of the best cars on the planet for protecting your money too, but times have changed and there are more Porsches about these days.

I have not driven one yet but I think if they are as good as people say I will really consider changing my 911 for one in a year or 2 when they are a little cheaper (£30k)

A friend of mine bought a 2006 S with the 3.4 engine because he thought it was going to be a safe bet WRT depreciation. Paid £56k for it in 2006 and traded it in late 2010 for £18k.

These look so good with the roof down but then again I absolutely love the fixed roofed Carerra S styling as well, those rear lights especially though!

The twisted spoke alloys are far nicer than the diamond spoked wheels though on these new cars.

Seriously good looking cars. I think one of these might just sway me away from a 911 one day. Or perhaps a classic 911 and a boxster for every day.
