Step dad just popped in with one of the keys to his 911 in many little pieces.

Apparently he was mowing the lawn with it in his pocket, it fell out, and got mowed into said pieces.

Anyone care to guess, or even better know, how much a replacement key will set him back? (For a 996)

Sod's law the car's been sold and goes in a week or two, still has the spare but could do with both ideally!

£160.36 for new key fob transponder unit and coding @ Porsche Byfleet. That was for the Targa 3 button unit. I suspect prices will be very similar for the different iterations.

Er Do you need a new key cut or do you mean the plastic and electric part of it?

The actual metal key bit should be no bother I'd have thought (his one is just a bit bent, sure he can straighten that bit out ok) but the electronics are in pieces, did a right number on it :)

Yeah it's a 996 C4S, 2004 so a late one so not sure if that makes a difference to the key.

Proper Porsche one, think it's 3 button (open, lock, and the front catch maybe), but been a while since I saw a working one in one piece so might be wrong :)

I guestimated at £200, he thought it'd be more like £400 seeing as it's Porsche so least he'll be happier at that, he's ringing them tomorrow morning.

If he straightens out the metal bit they will put a new fob on the end which will be around the sort of cost I posted above.

Cheers will let him know roughly how much, he'll either get one done or just knock the cost off what it's been sold for.

Yeah he won't bother faffing with all that, it'll either be the OPC for a new key or knocking the cash off the price tbh.

tyring to find the receipt to tell you for def but I had one recently

proper Porsche key was about £140 inc coding through an Indy specialist

I got one the other week. £100 for the actual plastic / electronic part of the key. Swapped my blade over and the local indy coded it for free for me.
