port 3306 on mysql

I've just installed mysql on windows xp but getting an error 1045 saying i need to open port 3306. In my router cp, i cannot just open the port, i need to specify the protocol etc, and udp/tcp. Not sure what protocol this should be: mysql, http or something else.

Where are you connecting from/to? If you're sticking to local stuff, you don't need to fiddle with your router.
