So heres the deal. My setup here is that i have a Speedtouch 500 as a modem. Now what might happen with single PC setups is that the RJ-45 coming from that goes straight into an NIC card on a stand alone computer. However with my setup, that RJ-45 goes into a safecom 10-100 adsl router which splits our internet 4 ways (currently only using 3 of the 4 ports but thats irrelevant).

Now my problem is that im not sure which IP address i should be forwarding to on the speedtouch. Is it my local IP address of this machine (192.168.1.x)? or the IP of the safecom router?
Im always unsuccesful at hosting servers etc because of this.

The safecom router also has the option to forward ports (virtual server), which i am setting up to forward to the local IP of this machine.

Is there a possibility that the modem and the router are clashing? Should i scrap the current setup and purchase an all in one modem-router? Is there a way to configure the speedtouch so that it automaticaly forwards all ports to the router which in turn will forward the port to my machine? Would that even work? Help?

The WAN port on the Safecom is an RJ-45, not the connector size which comes out of the adsl filter hooked up to the phone line.

Not ADSL then. Safecom model code needed.

Maybe.
Turn off the DHCP in the Safecom and forward the port in the Speedtouch to the IP address on the PC you want. Use one of the UTP ports from the Speedtouch to the Safecom, leaving 3 for your devices. Don't use the WAN port on the Safecom.

Disabled DHCP in the Safecom ( noticed there was another option for static DHCP - enable/disable. Ignored it ), moved the Speedtouch into the one port remaining on the Safecom and lost internet connection.

Model of the Safecom: SBRU-10100

If you can offord it you should get a real networking adsl router to sort out your problem. Atleast you would have it done properly then the way networking should be.

If you need help you can reli on this forum. Good luck.
