Just wondering what the risk of a fire or any damage is with a new build if it aint done properly, is it really nescessary to get it tested?

Thanks

Modern PSU's are packed with safety features so the possibility of a computer starting a fire are very low indeed. If your really worried make sure you have the lowest possible fuse in the kettle lead (3A RED) and use an RCD socket.

No real need to PAT test a new rig as the PSU's would have gone through far more rigorous safety tests when made and the power lead your using is no doubt brand new and free from damage/wear and tear.

Not really sure a PAT could tell you much thats usful, most of the common failure modes of the PSU would not be picked up, and I don't see any reason why you need to be particualy concerned about PATing a computer PSU over say a Video Recorder, so unless you are in student halls, etc and require the magic sticker... then I wouldn't bother
