I rent a flat which has storage heaters which are are pretty useless as I only need heat in the evenings and by then they have lost their heat.

The room I wish to heat is about 5mx5m (lounge which goes through to kitchen) and its pretty well insulated given that there are flats on 5 sides.

What sort of heater should I get? Will any old do? I take it efficiency doesn't really count here as its just heat?

I would look at a Floor Standing Portable Halogen Heater, not that expensive to buy, & cheap to run.

You can get oscillating models, a 1600w model would usually give three or four heat settings, mine offers 1600w, 1350w, 900w.

Just buy what eddy posted seems cheap enough and and nicely stands on it's side. Don't make a science out of it its just shorting out electricity to make heat.

What's all this guff about one heater being cheap to run over another...

If they are all say 2KW then that is how much leccy they will use.

Personally I'd get one of these.
