Hi all,

I'm looking to buy a portable laptop that is capable of running a few VMs (nothing too serious - just for labbing).

Requirements are:
- Good CPU (i7 preferable)
- Lots of memory (preferably 8GB, or at least the option to add in additional memory)
- Good quality, high res screen, 13-15"
- Good Linux compatibility

Not too fussed about being able to play modern games, but it would be good if it could also be used for some light / older games (maybe Civ 5 at a push!) I'm not looking for a desktop replacement.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I think you might be better off getting a custom built 14" laptop.

I can't really think of any that would fit all your needs out of the box. and if by any chance they would, they would be well over £1000.

they all either have a lower-res screen, if they're nice and small, they'll only have ULV CPUs etc.

I'm personally waiting for Lenovo T440s with fHD IPS screen to start shipping, but I'm guessing the UK price will be rip-off Britain style, so might as well import it from the US.

Funnily enough, I have just been looking at the T440s, and it does look excellent... Shame it hasn't launched yet. Going by 430s prices though its going to be around £1500 for one of the higher end ones.
