Portable/Outdoor/Beach speakers for MP3 player?

Does anyone know of any decent portable speakers? It has to go fairly loud and hopefully provide some bass/mid-range. Must run on batteries.

i dont mind if its a unit with line in, just need to know if there are any particular models out there that are ahead of the competition

I heard the JBL on tour speakers, the flat ones with a curved lid which slides and they sound amazing, nearly bought them they sound so good, about £60, come in black or white and can run on AAs

They look quite small/tinny, can you give me an idea of their size?

It'll need to be fairly loud if i am to use it at the beach, dont mind if it burns through batts, i have rechargeables

erm...how to compare size.....about 2/3rds or a standard keyboard size? or maybe half (in length that is. Its made of metal.

I know what you mean they look so puny and rubbish, see if you can go into an apple store, normally they have them on demo, or buy them from somewhere with a good returns policy....they go LOUD! And dont distort until you really turn it up and it pierces your ears so you wouldnt put it that loud anyway.
