Portal 2 PS3 steam info

Info about the PS3s portal steam intergration has just been released, and I think its better than I expected it to be.

Marking the debut of Steam functioning on any next generation console, the features shipping in the PS3 version of Portal 2 include cross platform play (PC/Mac vs. PS3) for multiplayer games, persistent cloud-based storage of PS3 saved games, and cross platform chat (PC/Mac and PS3).

In addition, those who purchase Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 may unlock a Steam Play (PC & Mac) copy of Portal 2 at no additional cost by linking their PSN and Steam accounts.

"We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases."

"We designed the Portal 2 PS3 experience to be very straightforward for gamers," said Josh Weier, project lead on Portal 2 at Valve. "PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites."

I'll still get the 360 version, none of the this steam stuff bothers me and I prefer the 360 pad.

If you can buy it on PS3, then unlock the PC / Mac versions I'd buy it but only if you can trade it in on PS3 after. Which I doubt will work.

I like the idea of buy on PS3, get it on PC for nowt. I certainly will be having some of that now.

How will they tie the PS3 version to a console? Or is just a voucher to get the PC version. i.e. if you buy a second-hand PS3 copy, no PC game for you.

EPIC! quite pleased to hear this, they hinted at stuff like this for Xfire at the initial pre E3 of the PS3 release

Very good news, when did Valve make a big U-turn on the PS3?

I'll be getting this on the 360 more than likely anyway or maybe even on the PC where I played the first one but my PC gets such little use these days.

It was the biggest secret of E3 2010. Nary a whisper was made in the press leading up to it so it was a real surprise.

OT, Good news from Valve. After their comments after putting the Orange Box on the PS3 I had the impression they'd leave us alone, but this is great news.

It can only be a good thing, having a company like Valve committing to develop and innovate on the PS3. Will be a definite purchase for me.

I wonder if they'll re-do the Orange Box for PS3 themselves now (maybe for when HL2: Episode 3 comes along).

I'll definitely be buying the PS3 version if it has a free unlock for the PC version on the same account

I doubt they'll redo Orange Box, can't really see there being money to be made from that.
