It would indeed... but somehow i think the guy would throw a hissy fit if you told him he'd wasted 2 years of his life figuring out how to glitch a game to make an unimpressive speedrun. The backwards speed glitch was borderline but impressive... then he started glitching through the map and i began to wonder what the point was.

It's no more cheating than any of the other glitches he's doing. You just save when you're inside an edge glitch and it lets you do all sorts of crazy things.

The backwards speed thing isn't even a glitch. You just turn around in the air and keep jumping and the game speeds you up.

You'll find that many speedruns use glitches. As long as they're within the boundaries of the game and don't use anything from outside it (cheat codes etc) then it's fine imo.

I dunno, that's why I asked what it is, 'modified save' sounded to me more like hex editing save files to cause certain things to happen which is beyond just exploiting natural glitches found in the game IMO.

Like I said, the save glitch is just saving in an edge glitch.

The run is up on speeddemosarchives. To get on there, you're not allowed to cheat. Everything done in the Portal speedrun is within the boundaries of the game with no modifications. The only thing he has done is bound a button to "+jump" very quickly so he can move backwards fast. Using scripts isn't cheating either because it's done within in the game.
