My uncle has been with Vodafone pay monthly for a while now but he rarely makes phone calls so I suggested changing to pay as you go as a cheaper alternative whilst still keeping his old number. Is it even possible to port numbers to PAYG sims and if so how much do Vodafone charge?

i cant speak for voda, but ive asked o2 the same question in the last couple of days and they didnt have a problem with it. They are sending me a PAC and a sim through the post for free.

Ill confess i was a bit taken aback- i was expecting a bit of a battle, or to be told a straight no.

As far as I'm aware some used to charge a small fee but I think they all do it now as it's much easier than it used to be I'm guessing.

Yes you can pac numbers from contract to payg and back again. Done it myself with no problems. You could also ask voda to turn a contract sim into a payg one if your happy with that network.

As long as your Uncle is outside of his commitment period ie. the 12month contract he signed upto, then you can terminate the contract and get it transferred to PAYG by writing them a letter. You can ring them but (most of the time) they then say please put this request in writing, as you have to give them 30 days notice to terminate the contract.

But yeah they'll do it no problem and it shouldn't be too much hassle on your part.
