so I splashed the cash on a new D7500 and got it for £750. Body only mind so now I need to think about the glass. I am primarily thinking about portraits at this stage and my budget is £400. I’ve got a few ideas from looking around, sigma 30mm, Nikon 50mm 1.4 or 1.8.. what do you advise initially? Or maybe something completely different.

Thanking you!

The 85mm F1.8G is a fantastic lens at a fantastic price, one of my all time favourite Nikon lens. I got mine when I had my D7100 and I loved it. I still use it regularly with my D750 as well, but more for whole/half body shots whereas when I had it on the D7100 it was more of a head and shoulders lens for me. I have the Nikon 50mm f1.4 G as well, great lens but for portraits I really like the 85mm on a crop sensor camera.

I would also recommend the Nikon 85mm f/1.8. I'm surprised you've gone for a crop camera for portraits though as you can get a 36mp full frame body like the D800 for considerably less than £750.
