Portraits for online dating

I came across this website that offer photography shots, specifically for online dating. What sort of equipment and skills would I need to be able to do this myself (get a friend to take photos)?

Honestly? You could probably do it with a phone and snapseed.

Ideally you'd want a dslr, a good portrait lens, and pp software.

Ideally a DSLR. 85mm 1.8 lens. Photoshop. Basic skill. Non-threatening vibes.

40D + 50mm 1.8 will do?

As for Photoshop, what do I need to do in terms of correction (colour correction / curves)?

A 50 on a crop should be ok. Post processing should be minimal in my opinion, just get the skin tones right.

I'd be more focused on lighting and pose than anything else personally.

Not as well as a 50 1.8.
The whole point of the 50 is the DoF. Better for portraits to separate from the BG..

Will be fine, set it somewhere over 50mm and be carefull with your back ground, lighting and posing are the key things to focus on here. Personally I'd look for some good natural lighting as it's nearly always more flatering and normal looking then just make sure your relaxed and well presented take lots of shots and pick the best few. PP should be minimal to none, slight white balance/colouration tweak but the camera will probably get it close enough.
