Helloooo :D

Well I really want to either change my G4 mac mini for a intel core duo mini with 1gb of ram or the 17" imac.

First off I can't decide which one to go for and if its worth the extra money for the iMac but my main question is:

I know I can connect the new mac to my current mac with a firewire cable and transfer my files and software but how well will the G4 software run on the new Mac?

I use:

Microsoft Office 2004
HandBrake
Toast
Popcorn
Secure FTP
NicePlayer
Mplayer
VLC
iTunes
All iLife stuff
Firefox
Azureus
DivX
Flip4Mac
Windows Media Player
Stuff it 10

I mainly use the Mac for website work, loads of downloads, to play all my videos, office work, and I'm trying to get into photo and video stuff but this is why I want to upgrade as I don't have the power to do it!

I tried putting a 20min mp4 video clip into iMovie to edit it and it said '60 mins remaing" thats just to import it!!

Any help with this would be great.

Thanx

Microsoft Office 2004 - No universal yet
HandBrake - Universal
Toast - 7.1 is universal
Popcorn - 2.0 is universal
Secure FTP - dunno
NicePlayer - is universal
Mplayer - dont think this is
VLC - universal
iTunes - universal
All iLife stuff - universal
Firefox - universal
Azureus - universal afaik
DivX - universal
Flip4Mac - universal
Windows Media Player - think it is but not 100% sure, but why would u need it?
Stuff it 10 - theres a beta extractor that is universal, the full package is still PPC only i think

And this "problem" still exists on Intel Macs. I use a Macbook Pro, i tried importing a 10min mp4 into iMovie and it said it was gonna take ages. Which sucks.

does it??

Is it because its an mp4 or is it the same with all video formats?

Stuppy! Thank you for all that information! Now you say it why do I have Windows media player?? "Drags to trash"

It looks like I will be ok to change over then :)

Is there a good not over technical image editing program thats universal?

Cheers :D

You mean like a CAD package? I couldn't tell you.

I have Niceplayer set up to play WMV, MOV, MPG, DIVX, ASF etc etc. Then I use Realplayer to play real media. I cannot stand VLC.

Nice player just uses all the codecs that Quicktime uses.

Thank you thank you for all the replys!!

I mean something for resizing images, and having a play with them and that sort of thing.

I only got niceplayer last week and I must say it is pretty good! I agree VLC is not all that its just there as a backup player.

The xine plug in for NicePlayer is good too! Plays everything perfectly :)
