Possible CPU Bottleneck?

Hi all, wondering if someone could help me.

Just been playing GTA 5 and I'm getting horrible dips in FPS causing stutter. I played the game and started monitoring my PC. I noticed that the CPU usage was locked at 100% but my GPU usage only seen a max of around 85% tops. Is my CPU bottlenecking in this game or is it a issue with the game or drivers?

I have also notice a FPS dip once or twice while playing WoW since I have recently bought a 2560x1440 monitor. Could it all be because I'm now running games at 2560x1440?

Also is 8GB of RAM still enough for gaming? To be honest I never seen my RAM usage go over 75%.

PC Specs..

i5 2500k Overclocked to 4.6Ghz
ASUS P8P67 Pro Motherboard
MSI GTX 970 Overclocked to 1500mhz boost core and 7800mhz memory
8GB Samsung Green
512GB SSD
2560x1440 144hz Monitor

Thanks :)

Try unparking cores, GTA V is a dog to run online as the servers seem to lower my FPS when there are over 10 players in one session, I wouldn't have thought your CPU would be bottlenecking much, mine does very rarely and that is because of poor ports.

I have check and all 4 cores are working. I wouldn't have thought and 2500k at 4.6Ghz would bottleneck a single GTX 970. I haven't got a golden 2500k either so not really any more overclock I can get out of it. Really want to make this CPU last until Skylake.

If you're running with very high grass quality try dropping this to high. It made a huge difference to my frame rate and that's running at 1080 on a GTX 980.

Everyone gets the same issues with GTA5. I don't think you will notice any improvement by buying a new CPU tbh. I don't think you will even see much difference "upgrading" to Skylake either looking at their performance.

Also going to 1440 will hit performance.

You're not honestly saying a 2500K @ 4.6 is bottlenecking :D

I know yeah, I don't think it is myself. Just showing the symptoms of it. Forgot to mention I run a second monitor as well at 1920x1080. I like having Twitch open and watching streams while playing and I've noticed the FPS drops seem to only happen when Twitch is open on the second screen.

Strange.... I'll do some more digging. Not getting rid of my 2500k until the next set of CPU's are released at least.

Theres your problem, watching streams via twitch requires a not insignificant amount of CPU time.Turn off the streams while playing GTA5 and you will be fine.

There's no bottleneck, the rig just isn't strong enough to run GTA 5 at 1440p with all the bells and whistles while also keeping 60 fps. Plus, there's just some areas in GTA 5 where FPS will dip regardless of your setup and there's not much you can do about it.

Yeah indeed, I've seen that before even on older systems I was playing and watching youtube at 720p/1080p and it would do that. Well anyway you know your CPU is still good ;)

I have almost the same rig as you, and have the same problem.

Makes me feel better that someone with similar spec suffers this as well.

I will just not watch streams as I can maintain 75-110 FPS on High (Not very high) with just the game open, and I can't grumble with that at 1440p :)
