Possible Damaged Motherboard?

Hi all,

Seeking a little advice regarding a potential damaged board. I can't find any similar issues on Google, nor on here so hoping someone has a second opinion.

Relevant info...

Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77-V Pro
CPU - I7 3770k
Cooler - Antec Kühler H20 920

Was reseating the cooler / changing paste (and so on) and on reassembly, I've lost power to the CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT sockets. Both of these of course work in the regular fan sockets and POST - but of course the POST stops due to CPU fan error (as the socket is not detecting any fan speed, or even is now totally faulty).

On second look there are two possibilities (one of which is my cack handed doing, more than likely).

1. Over time, whilst fitting, the screws beneath the cooler 'clamp' legs have been lightly scratching the board. This scratching is now fairly obvious around two of the fixing holes and the plastic coating has very slightly revealed the PCB (although I cannot see if it is damaged).

2. The CPU has a little thermal paste residue on the bottom side (now cleaned), which has also stuck to a few of the pins. Wondering if this is causing a short somehow.

So...opinions. Fried mobo? Clean the socket? I have some new parts on order but ideally don't want to replace the board (and CPU, due to the older socket, I may as well now get a Haswell).

Thanks!

Sounds like the fan controller has taken a dump or those traces are indeed fan related.

Can disable the cpu fan warning in Bios and run the fan from another header.
