Possible eBay nightmare unfolding

I replaced the CF reader/pins on a 20D many moons ago (I think I bought it from Zogger on here actually). Only cost me about £25-30 in parts. Not much help but bent pins aren't the end of the world.

Three possibilities:
1) You sent it with bent pins
2) He bent the pins
3) It's a totally different camera

You'll need to prove which one it is.

It does seem strange that he received the item today and already has a quote for £140 to repair something that sounds easily fixed.

Perhaps he was hoping you offered to pay the £140 or halves and he can just bend the pin back with some tweezers. Have you used google to do a reverse image search just incase it's not an image he has taken?

Well I'll be abel to rule in/out 3 when it comes back to me. 1 or 2, who knows, I'd be amazed if it was me but it'll be his word against mine.

Hopefully I can fix it myself. I'll still be out of pocket massively though as I paid £25 to post it, I'll have to refund the postage back to me, plus £32 for a new part and just hoping that I can fix it.

I realise it's a bit late now, but being such an active member, I would have thought you would have seen the number of 'Shafted by eBay buyer' threads detailing very similar situations where upon arrival, the item sent is suddenly not in the same condition the seller sent it in.

It's a scammer's paradise, and the bigger ticket items, such as your camera, are where there is money to be made.

eBay is great if people collect and pay cash, generally it's the delivery part that causes the headaches.

Incidentally, if it was me - and bearing in mind the nightmare that is ebay, I'd have probably offered him £130 back to get it fixed himself, that way I wouldn't have to deal with going through the whole ******* charade again.

Hope it all turns out ok though, whatever happens..

Tell him to stop being a tool and just get a small screwdriver or something in there to lever them back up. If your gentle then they bend very easily without snapping. I have done that loads of times.

It is 100% due to poor cf card insertion. He has done that himself.

I usually sell on Talk Photography forums but decided to just use eBay this time, not sure why. I wasn't really sure what I'd get for it.

Anyway, it's on it's way back to me now. I'll fix it and sell on forums instead of eBay this time.

If he's just put a card in maybe he won't have changed the copyright info etc.

Might help to identify if it's the same camera?

Yes I have a screenshot from an app I used to get the shutter count before I sent it. Also confirms the serial number.

My camera is also registered in my name, shows it in the screenshot. I'll know if it's not the same one. Part of me hopes it's not, although no doubt eBay will still side with him if it isn't.

To be honest I want to know how you can bend those pins like that when putting in a proper card the right way.

Sounds like the cards been rammed in by him when you want to make sure its lining up and you can feel the card sinking in without force.

Total hashiness.
