im thinking of building a sandy bridge rig but not sure if the Z68 chipset mobos are worth the extra over the P67 mobos. id be tempted if the SSD caching could be done ofr a secondary drive, i.e the hdd with my games on as my boot drive will be a ssd thinking a agility 3 60gb but seems to be plenty of good 6gb ssds coming out at the mo. Not sure which chipset to go with as i wont use most features on the Z68 it will be a gaming rig but if i could cache a hhd with all my games on that would be good or is it not worth it an just get a Seagate Momentus XT instead? Not sure what to do.

Any ideas?

Seagate Momentus XT is garbage, dont do it.
As for the SSD cacheing, you can basicly assign the cache to any drive you like.
Infact you can even slice up the SSD and cache multiple drives.

Example: Take one 120gb SSD, format 80gb for your system and use the rest for cacheing games.

cheers for that i was going to get a cheapo 20 gb ssd an use that as cache for my games hdd but i might just get a bigger ssd an partion it as you suggest :) Although wont that limit performance instead of getting a 2nd ssd? an if it dies it takes me whole systme out not just the games drive. At least i know now it can be done as i havent seen any reviews that mention it for other than the boot drive.

cheers mate was driving me mad

but surely better than just a hdd though? what you suggest as im new to ssds i have a vertex 60 gb at the mo seems ok but tis features arnet fully supported on this mobo as its an old n680i. was thinking agility 3 60gb for boot drive is it better i get a 120gb an partition it instead?

Aren't the imminent Intel SSDs (small sizes) supposed to be aimed @ SSD caching on the likes of Z68 ? Was thinking of going down that route myself....

yea i read on a couple of sites in the past that intel was releasing 20gb ssd i think the 510 series although could be wrong which was aimed specifically at doing this. Thats why i thought another 30 to 40 quid for a small sssd to boast my hhd with my games on would be a worthwhile investment an have a decent but not big ssd for boot drive, not too happy about partitioning my boot drive as if it fails the whole system will be done in too. So not too sure as before i cnat find any reviews about this they always mention it for boot drive instead which considering a few peopel have thought about what i wnat to do you think they would cover it if it was possible. Who knows?

yea that looks familiar lol, but its just a Z68 board with a assd mount on it instead of using 1 of the sata ports which when you have 6 im not that bothered about using 1 an sooner have the space on my mobo. Whether its a lot quicker having the ssd attached directly to the mobo im guessing it will be quicker but the info i have looked at in the past about iti think on ***** was that it was a boot drive only thing. Will just have to wait an see tbh an see what they can do with it im going to wait to see what AMD pull out the bag before i go down sandy bridge route i can wait for now
