GFX Card: 6800LE
Monitor: 17in CRT
For the past month or so my monitor has randomly gone into standby mode. It has now got to the state where I can no longer take it and I need to find out what the problem is asap. I really cannot afford another gfx card to test with however I do have a spare monitor.
So as said, my monitor randomly goes into standby mode. When this first started, I could wiggle the monitor a little and it would return to normal. This gave me the impression that the monitor was slowly dieing. When it got slightly worse I decided to try another CRT just to be sure, but the same thing happened with that.
This then lead me to believe my graphics card is slowly dieing. However, I have a TV attached to the gfx card too (via the little round 'tv' port), and that always remains perfect. I have tried connecting the CRT via both analogue and dvi connections - same problem with both.
I believe both monitors are okay as they both gave the same problem when attached. I used different power leads too. EDIT: the second monitor is used on the second PC and works fine there.
From what I've said so far, it seems obvious that the gfx card is dieing and needs to be replaced, however, as said before, the monitor does return to normal if i wiggle the wire going to the gfx card - even if it's just a split second flicker and back to standby, fiddling with the wire does have an impact.
So, as now it's somehow related to the monitor wires, I believe its something to do with lack of power? Can it be that the gfx card has not got enough power somehow? Maybe the monitor itself has a lack of power - enough to keep it in standby but not enough to display the picture?
I've run out of ideas and tests so I finally write this thread asking for futher advice.
Later today I'ma give the whole pc a good clean - clear the desk, vacuum behind it all, reattach the pc again, etc, etc, but I can't see that helping much.
Any suggestions however little appreciated.. thanks..

Whilst rereading what I wrote, I realised the following might help:
400w PSU
GFX card is securely fitted with the psu power lead attached too - I'll change this to another power lead just to be sure..
