Possible GFX card problem?

Hi,

I'm getting really fed up when playing games lately as every now and then I seem to loose frame rates in game and this can last anywhere between 1-5 seconds and is unplayable when it does this! I thought this was lag at first but it's not as I have tested offline games and get the same problem.

I'm running an X800 Pro 256mb GFX card and think it must be the card which has the prob (It's over 2.5 years old now), or could it be software related? Is there any programs out there that I can use to test my card to see if it is actually causing the problem? I don't think it could be heat related as my rig is in a Coolermaster Stacker case with plenty of fans and the temp of the card is normal.

I never used to have this problem before and I could play games as smooth as anything but now this problem is so anoying especially when your playing online games!

I would be grateful for any advice to try and find the source of this problem!

Thanks

Yo Cerberous :)

I am also experiencing the loss of framerates for like 1 - 3 seconds in online games, every now and then.

I has only started happening 2 weeks ago, so I am not sure what my problem is.

It is ******* annoying though!

Mine is happening in Call of Duty 2 Mulitplayer.

My graphics card is only a month old so I doubt its that.

However, when I play Singleplayer, not on the Internet there is no loss of framerate at all.

Im also using a wireless keyboard.

May be that, I am just going to try my wired one just to erase the fact it may be our keyboards.

You using wireless Internet for your gaming?

Steve :)

Yep, still does it with a wired keyboard.

I can only think it is Norton, because when I am on the Internet, Norton is continually downloading updates.

When I am offline and playing a game, there is no loss of framerate, because Norton can not connect to Live Update.

Il check it with Norton off.

Yep its my damn Norton.

It says...

"Last Live Update was 14.53pm on 01/09/2006"

That was when I was playing COD2 and thats why my framerates go.

Turned off Live Update now, should do the job.

I am not sure about yours Cerberous...anymore infomation if there is any?

Steve

**What game it happen in?**

Thanks for the info Steve,

Yes I use a wireless router as well and am running McAfee Enterprise Anti-Virus.

You've just given me an idea, I'm going test games offline and turn off my router so there's absolutely no interference from my anti virus updating etc plus I'll also disable it.

I get this framerate prob in all games really, but been playing BF2 online mostly and it happens all the time whilst playing that online!

Yep :)

I disabled my Norton Live Update, as it was doing it every hour or so.

Went onto COD2, and all was good :D

So it was 100% my Norton making me lag for 1 - 3 seconds at a time.

I will not do Live Update manually once every week.

I use wireless router too, so that could cause a little bit of the problem, il try my ethernet cable later.
