Hey guys, had my PC since like January and never had any problems with it. However, in the last 2 days my PC has been shutting down when i'm playing a video file and before it does shut down it does a weird buzzing sound.
I shut it down and rebooted perfectly and checked the gpu temp on my 3870. It was 56c. I ran riva tuner and upped the fan speed and played video files and had no issues for the rest of the day.

But again i had issues when playing a vidoe file (same restart) and same gpu temp of 56c. Never ran rivatuner though.

Is the GPU hitting this certain temperature causing the crash?

Will i have to fork out another 150 quid from ocuk for a new one?

those temps are perfectly fine for a gfx card.

it sounds like you may have corrupt/bad directfilters causing problems. try playing the video in vlc media player and see if it solves the problem.

Trouble is i was playing in vlc.

I installed a sound blaster audigy card a few days before if that could by any chance affect my system?

But like sound files play fine.

I have had this problem aswell. It's down to the codecs. Each video file on you hdd, right click and change the 'open with' from media player to vlc. Now I have not had any problems. Although I have never had this problem with my laptop, always on my desktop -weird.
