Possible gpu upgrade advice.

A freind is asking me for advice upgrading his sons PC. He has
b450 with a 5600 cpu,
6650xt gpu
16gb of 3600mhz ram.

Im not sure about his budget so im looking to give advice on his best bang for buck upgrade for gaming performance. Obviously the big flashy gpu is first call when ever anybody thinks to increase gaming performance but im unsure as of late whether the cpu will hold any of that back. I seem to recall the 7000 series gpus not offering a great bump in performance.

But i think im suggesting an X3D cpu as a better more cost effective upgrade. Seems the price of them hasnt budged in a long while though. They 5700x3d is about 250 quid still.

So will will the 5700x3d for 250 quid give a better gaming upgrade or a gpu of the same price?
 
What games are being played and at what resolution? If you can't get that, then can you get what games are currently the problem and a description of how?

What is the PSU?
 
I wouldn't recommend throwing any more money at AM4, but ultimately depends on the budget and like above what needs improving.

The only reason i would suggest the x3ds is because to get a newer more gaming capable cpu it requires a whole new pc pretty much.
 
Hes playing at 1440p and not shooters. If he got a new gpu it might not be a noticeable upgrade because of the cpu.

It depends on the game and detail settings, but I'd say that at 1440p you're more likely to see an uplift from upgrading the 6650 XT to something like a 9060 XT (16GB), or better: a 9070.

The X3D CPU will help in some games, of course, but the 5600 does still have some legs beyond the 6650 XT.

After the 9070, if that still doesn't help, then I'd look at doing a platform switch, because £250 for a 5700X3D is very painful (new prices of DDR4 are also bad).
