Currently running a 2gb GTX285 which whilst keeping up with modern titles to a point is getting a bit old now. The rest of the system is [email protected], 6gbram, 850w Corsair, standard HD/DVD. Run things at 1920x1200.

Will a more uptodate card offer better heat management, power consumption etc?
Which card would be best suited for the system?
Or as the 285 is still performing, leave the system as is?

As said a 7950 would be spot on, though if you're not struggling i don't see any reason to upgrade.

If you want a cheap £90-£150 upgrade you should have a look at a secondhand 6950/6970 or GTX 570/580.

Which cards would be supported by the Corsair TX850 V2(CP-9020043-UK)?
Would this cover everything upto the most recent releases? The 12v rail states 70a unless I've read the wrong bit so should be ok?
Last time I bought a graphics card it didn't need additional power!! :)

I should think all cards would be fine with a decent psu like that. :)

+1

You could run any single card configuration with that PSU and that includes dual GPU cards like the GTX 690, 7990 etc.

You'd even be able to run most SLi and crossfire configurations!!

Im running gtx 670 sli with the spec in sig, 430w at the wall when gaming. An i7 920 will handle any modern single gpu easily. Ive had a single 670 in my 930 at 4.2ghz, runs great. It is a slight bottleneck with both cards in though. Iirc, my old 920 @4.2ghz with oc'd gtx 470's drew 630w at the wall, that was with the cards oc'd too.

Is the 7950 quiet or does it suffer varying amounts of coil wine? been thinking of an upgrade myself lately but might wait to see what the nvidia 760 is like

You'll run anything with that PSU. You can even comfortably run a dual GPU setup with any of the recent cards.

As others have said, a 7950 is probably the best bang-for-buck card in the high end. It should give you around 3x the performance of your 285. If you want to spend a little more, you cod look at the gtx770 or 7970GE. It's diminishing returns for every pound over the price of the 7950 though.
