Been thinking about building a HTPC/home server for a while and have started to throw together a couple of builds. However, I'm not sure how much better one would be than the other. I don't want to spend more money than need be when what I want them to do is to tick the following boxes:
HIGHER END BUILD - Approx. £575 w/o PSU or Optical Drive
BUDGET BUILD END - Approx. £290 w/o PSU or Optical Drive
Thanks for any help.
- Play HD video and music straight from the HDD and stream it over the network
- Stream video directly from the likes of iPlayer, YouTube, and so on...
- Always on server so I can store files I want to access when I'm not at home or stream video/music
- Rip DVD/Bluray (willing to forfeit this)

- Zotac Z68ITX-A-E Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
- Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3 GHz

- Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit

BUDGET BUILD END - Approx. £290 w/o PSU or Optical Drive
