Possible IP35 Pro Problem

I've just built myself a new system comprising of :

Abit IP35 Pro
Q6600 GO
2GB OCZ Reaper pc6400 mem
BFG 8800GTX OC

Now I can boot into windows fine, play games, browse the interenet, etc. However, when I go into the BIOS, if I try to make any significant changes such a turning the speedstepping option off or any other sort of change, when I save the changes and exit the bios the system will not reboot. It hangs on a blank screen until I switch the pc off at the psu and restart. When I then went back into the Bios the Uguru utility wasn't showing cpu temp and other settings.

Now I thought that this might be due to the bios requiring an update so I flashed the bios to the lastest one and the problem still persisted. I then flashed the bios back to the original one and the problem still persisted. I've also started to notice that some of the text when entering the Uguru utilility appears to be corrupt.

I'm guessing the board is possibly faulty to some extent, but before I RMA it back to Oc I just wanted to see if anyone else may have some words of wisdom about this.

Hi mate,

Ive just got the IP35 pro and Q6600, mine seems to be acting same as yours :(

the bios doesnt show cpu temp nor does uguru utility which wont startup at all now,

and like you said it hangs when you try to change anything in bios.

Hope somebody can help.

Already done that several times. When I go back into the bios straight after resetting the cmos everything is okay, but when i make any changes it wont restart. The only change I can make that reboots the system is to turn the Abit splash screen off. Any other changes result in the above.

I had a similar problem, albeit less serious.

I was able to change options like Speedstepping etc, andchange the cpu fsb to a degree, but trying to overclock anymore than up to 2.9ghz resulted in the same failure to boot.

After much headscratching I noticed the DRAM setting on the uguru screen was set to 1000mhz (when I had pc6400 ram), which I thought was a bit odd. I turned this down to 800 mhz to match my RAM and hey presto, I could ram the fsb up to a give a total clock of 3.3ghz (I have a Q6600). I dont actually know much about this at all since this is my first overclock, but try turning the CPU:DRAM setting down - tbh i dont really know what this is. But I do know that my system is now Prime stable!

However I never experienced the error whereby the mobo didnt detect the CPU temp.

I never thought of checking that. I shall have a look when I get home from work tonight. It's worth a try.

I've sent Oc a webnote to see if they might have any ideas on the problem.

Well I've had a reply from Oc and they seem to think that the motherboard is faulty and have given me a RMA number to send it back. Shame really as I'm going to have to wait unit next week to do this now.

Interestly they've also said that the windows uguru utility is known for showing errors and making systems hang.

Mines still playing up, still no cpu temp and hanging.

spose im gonna have to webnote them to get RMA sorted aswell :(

Newflesh2000 are you getting IP35 again or changing for something else?

by the sounds of yours (no temp reading etc. in BIOS) yours may have a faulty uGuru chip.
It's a good mobo so I would just get another 1.

just received mine, looks a very well made mobo,

Love the heatsinks on it as well.

Wont get to play with it till later this evening though when i get home from work.

Update on my problems,

saw new bios version 14 is out and thought i might aswell try it,
the flash went ok so i booted up and went into bios to check if cpu temp was being read (fingers crossed).... YAY:) 25.

Changed boot device and carried on to windows, tryed to run the uguru utlity but it still wont start up.
Does it matter if this isnt running?

Couldnt make any changes in bios before without it throwing a wobbly
but now ive been able to put in my proper ram settings and done a little overclock to 3.2GHz :D

No, because it can all be done from the BIOS too but it should work so something isn't right somewhere.

I had the exact same thing as NewFlesh almost.. RMA'ed to OC and now waiting the the replacment to get here. Tried contacting Abit myself what a waste of time that was.

abit UK are normally very easy to get a hold of (you'll see Sean here sometimes too) & very good at dealing with stuff.
What problems did you have with them?

Sent an e-mail to uk support about my problems and got a mail back saying it was being passed to head office.. and that was the last i heard and that was over a week ago.. sent an e-mail in between asking whne i could exspect a reply.

Haven't got around to taking the board out yet so I might give the 1.4 BIOS a try, otherwise it'll be taken out after work tomorrow.

Sly: Oc seem to think that the Uguru utility in windows is a bit buggy which is why it isn't reliable. It wont cause any problems with the board because, as already stated, you can do it the old fashioned way via the BIOS.

Sorry if I haven't got back to you. I have lots of emails to deal with and sometimes a few get missed. Can you resend the email and I will make sure you get an answer.
