My mate is trying to talk me into getting the sandybridge i5 but im edging more towards the i7 3820 has any one got any thoughts on these two processors

No im coming 22 and have two kids i cant play games forever

Yes you can ;)

I know loads of people in their late 30's who sneak a couple of hours in in the evenings after the wife/kids are in bed.

Also get the 2500k or a 3570k for gaming, an m4 sdd and headphones can be had that are much better than any headset for equivalent prices + a clip on mic.

yes of course you can, i am over 40 with 4 kids. i pop on bf3 for a couple of hours most nights and of a weekend when everybody is busy doing there own things ;)

instead of him spending the extra on cpu and board i want him to drop to the i5 2500k and invest in the Benq 120hz monitor and the phantom 580. he wont listen to the fact that its the monitor and gpu that will drive the games and show the results rather than the cpu and board. also that the i5 2500k will last just as long as that 3820 for games. talk sense into him please :)

still deciding on the motherboard. whats the auto overclock button on the boards like these days? i would like him to get a simple overclock when i build it but i am going nowhere near bios as i dont know how to oc. any suggestions?

this is what i have come up with so far.

If it's going to be the last system you are going to build for a while, why don't you spend the £50 extra and get the 680 GTX?

i5 2500K is a better choice for gaming - they just don't make use of hyperthreading yet.

This would do nicely:

I strongly suggest a 680 or 7970 over an expensive 580.

Also, this XFX 850W is cheaper and very good:

i had that gigabyte board shorlisted for him so its in the running.

i noticed some people complain about whine and clicking from the 750w version of the XFX. ive a corsair and its super so i though i would stick to that. he can decide which he wants tho.

if there is a 680 on offer and in stock the day hes buying then we could swap the 580 out if he wants.

well most of use seem to be reccomending the i5 sandybridge over the i7 3820 sandybridge-e. Has anyone got experience with the both of them and if so what was ur opinion on them
